Where is everyone buying locally raised beef, pork, poultry?
The Community Mercantile in Lawrence is a good source for locally raised meats, eggs, and cheeses, etc. I know it won't probably help the OP (b/c of the distance) but i thought I'd throw it out here as a source.
we shop occasionally at the merc and at the Meat Market that use to happen at the Local Burger- now Amy Saunders comes to KC twice a month and we get that beef, poultry, pork from her.
Sadly, Bill Kurits' (of SE Kansas) has no outlet here. He moved back to Sedan, KS to start a ranch w/ family. All grass fed meat - it's great. You can order from them online.
Lots of places in Chicago have his meats.
I usually go with the Good Nature Farms meats and eggs, available at Hen House and some Price Chopper stores.
There's also an operation out of Lawrence that looks interesting:
What about McGonigles for beef? Is that local?
They're a local butcher, but I don't see anything on their website about the source of the meat they're cutting.
We're GNFF purchasers as well but the selection of cuts is limited.- as for Amy's Meats...I've purchased from her in the past. Very good quality. She'll now be available in Kansas City once a week.
first we need to know where local is to you. . .
Paradise Lockers in Trimble, Mo, north of Smithville. Be prepared for sticker shock.
