Sultan Kebab, Larkin @ Ellis

Had a quick lunch at Sultan Kebab today and found it to be good. Had the doner plate with lamb + beef. Everything was fresh and good, with a great side bread that they make in-house. The combo of the charred meat with the acidic cabbage salad and the bread hit the spot.

In an old thread re shawerma's, Melanie mentions "That address was formerly Adana Kebab, Sahara, and before those two, Gyro Kebab.

After one lunch, I will probably return to check out other things on the menu. My lunch was $8.

  1. Sultan Kebab changed into Sol de Mexico about 2 weeks ago. According to an employee, it's still the same owners. The menu has tortas, burritos and, on weekends, birria and menudo. Chips and salsa free. The old Sultan Kebab website is still up.

Interesting shift. The owner is an entity called "Bektaslar Inc." which implies a Turkish connection. Maybe they perceive a new market.

I'm not in that neighborhood enough to really get a handle on it, but my casual observation is that there seems to be an increasing Mexican/Latino presence in parts of the TL. Dos anybody see a new, 'Mission North" neighborhood forming?

if i remember correctly, the employee said that the wife of the owner is from Mexico. Didn't eat anything there but just picked up the paper menu which looked pretty standard but it sounds like it has potential, if they're so inclined. maybe the competition from A La Turca and Gyro King was just too much. It's kind of a nice space with the mezzanine seating.

While walking a few doors south, I saw some posters on Mangosteen advertising Hue-inspired specials which I hadn't seen before.
