Joann's Cafe chocolate brownie muffin

Needing something sweet to quell the flames of my hot, hot lunch on Friday, I cruised up to Joann's Cafe. This had been a favorite of mine when I worked in San Bruno, but I'd not stopped by in this century after the change in ownership. I was pleased to see the bakery case in the front still had a few things to offer mid-afternoon and even happier to see a couple of the chocolate brownie muffins. What fun to revisit those chewy, chocolate-y bites studded with walnuts and chocolate chips! I polished it off in the car before I made it back the City. Then I was sorry that I only bought one.

New owner has been in charge a long time now. Rudy and Armando Granadas, brothers. Rudy used to cook for JoAnn before she sold it to him and retired. Rudy also owns Nena's kitchen in the Mission although I have not been there.
I still enjoy the food at JoAnn's including those yummy chocolate muffins!
jane, sorry for the alarm, the change over was in 2001/2002, I believe. I've not been there for over 10 years. I almost got the carrot muffin, as that had been my favorite for breakfast, but since this was dessert, I went with the smaller but denser chocolate muffin.
d, thanks for the reminder about Nena's being under common ownership, as I might have a better chance to getting over there. I'm not a fan of turkey, but I loved each of the four turkey sandwiches on the menu here. Joann was still dating Tony when I used to go there. The giant Tony burger is the X-burger now on the menu, think I ordered it once and then had a hard time staying awake at work that afternoon!
