How to change my Chowhound name

  • d

I would REALLY like to change my Chowhound name - I was not inspired with a good one when I set up the account and now I finally have a better one. I could not find how to accomplish that in the settings - I also tried to set up a new account with the new name but that seems to be a no-go since I am using the same email address as the current account. What can I do?

Thank you

I also need to change my name as it's too similar to that of another frequent contributor. Could you advise?

      Thanks in advance.

We've sent them to you, as well. For others who might search and find this thread, the best way to get these instructions is to email us at moderators@chowhound.com and we'll get them to you.

Please send to me too. Someone "outed" me on this site so I no longer have anonymity.

At one point wasn't it policy not to allow name changes? If you do change your name what happens to your followers?

To the best of my knowledge, that user name remains "out there" with their posts but will show as "deactivated" (gray name instead of a blue hyperlink name), and followers and old posts will not tie to the new name.

Actually, the gray, unclickable names you sometimes see indicate posts that predate the 2006 relaunch and our current login system. They aren't actually associated with any user account and (to my knowledge) never were.

And James, your recollection is correct; see the post carolinadawg linked to below for further details.

Oops, sorry. That's right - when I got this name with the 2006 relaunch, all the stuff I'd posted as LWhitt58 (I think that was my name pre-CNET) was gone. Which is sad. :-(

Unfortunately, you can't actually change the name on your account, you can only open a new account, so you lose your history including followers. We let people know what'll happen if they make that choice, but it's not forbidden.

People aren't allowed to have more than one name active at a given time, but changing one for another is okay.

I just don't think it's worth it if I lose all browsing history. Thanks for the answer.
