Which is better? The Sunday brunch at the Ritz-Cartlon Laguna Niguel or St. Regis in Monarch Beach?

I haven't been to either. I'm sceptical about the RC because I know they've under gone a change of ownership recently and they've remodeled some of the resort but not all of it. I'm wondering if they've cut corners recently.

I'd like to take my husband out to a Sunday champagne buffet-style brunch for his birthday in February. I don't want a brunch that you order off the menu. He'd prefer a buffet brunch.

The Montage doesn't have anything.

Has anyone recently been to either the Ritz or St. Regis Sunday brunch and do you have any opinions you'd like to share?

Thank you.

  1. I've been to both, but it has been awhile. My family and I treated my Dad two years ago for Father's Day at the St. Regis. I believe there are several restaurants inside this Hotel, but the one with the Sunday Brunch is called Motif (I think). I do remember being very impressed with the Hotel itself and the restaurant. It's right on the ocean with a beautiful courtyard overlooking the Pacific. The Brunch was a Buffet and had everything. You name it, they had it. They were also doing some outdoor grilling. It was quite wonderful. The Ritz Carlton in Laguna is also good, but I haven't been in years. My choice for your hubby - spoil him and yourself at the Regis.

    1. I have not been to the Ritz, but I have to say - hands down, the St. Regis. The service is impeccable and the food is to die for. Everything from sushi to a pancake bar with 80 choices of fillings. If my husband had his way, we would have a weekly reservation (and probably weigh 50 lbs more!)

That's very good to know. Apparently we're going to the St. Regis...

Great choice. We were at the Ritz about two weeks ago and the brunch sucked! The food was plain. Not a thing was wow other than the view. The caviar was also really bad. The brunch at the Ritz in Tyson's Corner and the Pasadena were hands down much better and cheaper.
