Best Après-Ski town in NC?

My husband and I would like to take a long weekend in February to do a little skiing and eating. I'm looking for opinions on what the best town for Chowhounds to stay in would be within, say, 20-30 miles of an NC ski resort. We haven't settled on where to ski yet, but it will probably be Sugar Mountain or Beech. We'd like to be able to have nice dinners in the evening and decent filling breakfasts. Love to hear what your favorite town is and a few eating suggestions.
Sugar is very close to Banner Elk, which has some decent restaurants (do a search of this Board for specific reviews - we go there frequently but don't eat out often, so others can give specifics better than I can). For that matter, it's about 30 minutes from Boone, which certainly has lots of dining options.
Blowing Rock is near Sugar also, which has some nice restaurants right on Main Street. We ate at Storie Street Grill on Main that was real nice. They do seasonal food, sourcing as much as possible from local farms. We sat right next to the fireplace, which was great (spent the day hiking).
We also ate at Blowing Rock Grill (which is off Main Street) for lunch and it was pretty good. Canyons is a great place for a drink and a view; we didn't eat there so not sure of the food.
If you stay in Blowing Rock, check out the Roaring River Chalets. You can rent your own A-Frame cottage, which is nice and romantic. We had a blast that weekend...
