Great Place for a Reception?

I'm going to be in Chicago this summer and would like to hold a reception for my group. I'm looking for a nice place to have drinks/hors d'oeuvres for approx. 50 people. Some folks have suggested Maggiano's and Martini Park...but I don't know anything about them.

      1. I think a lot depends on "my group" -- is this a work thing? From what I hear many regular office workers LOVE the portions and variety at Maggiano's, but it is mainstream, almost cliche. If your group is more adventurous there are probably better choices.

I've walked past Martini Park, doesn't seem like my kind of place. Loud. Dark. Filled with guys older than me who try too hard to seem hipper than guys younger than me..

Need more details on what you are looking for -- the idea of Chowhound is "for those who live to eat" -- not sure if that helps...

          1. Don't do Maggiano's. I realize this sounds extreme, but I put it about 1 notch above Olive Garden.
Museums, etc., are a good idea, but renting one, especially during the summer, would run over $10,000 in rental alone (as a recent veteran of trying to find a location for my wedding, I have experience).
Most larger restaurants have private dining areas that can fit 50 people. My rehearsal dinner was at Scoozi, and it was good. You can also try Petterino's, Wildfire, Smith & Woolinsky...(off the top of my head)
