Lima: Restaurante Rafael
I can't figure out why this amazing restaurant doesn't get the props it deserves. Just got back from 3 weeks in Peru and this was the absolute best meal of the trip if not the best we've had in many years. In addition to great food, there is a great local vibe.
Had seared scallops, crunchy shrimp tempura, goat cheese gnocchi and those were just the starters. The fish was amazing as was the lobster risotto.
We also ate at Tanta, part of the Astrid & Gaston group, great fun as was their takeaway sandwich place (forgot the name).
Need a reservation, go and enjoy!
Rafael was nice enough. Great vibe, but the portions were small and the only dish that was memorable was Chupe de Enormes Conchas... and the killer for us was the absolutely White (Caucasian vibe there was there) My partner and I were the only Brown ppl there, out of 50 ppl!!!! With exception of the waitstaff. Also not so friendly towards us, and we tipped 15% which is almost unheard of in Lima. Not coming back. T'anta and Astrid Y Gaston, were BY FAR friendlier and professional and their cuisine much more memorable!
