Singaporean Food in L.A.?

  • j

I'm looking for a Singaporean restaurant in L.A. or Orange County, or at least a place where I can get a good bowl of Laksa.

  1. You can find Malaysian laksa at Kuala Lumpur in Pasadena on Green Street. Don't know about Singapore-style laksa.

Oh, yeah, Malaysian is a good alternative. I have been to Kuala Lumpur several times. The food is excellent! It's worth the drive from the westside. I just tried Yazmin and although it was good, I liked Kuala Lumpur's Nasi Lemak better.

Also, Ramayani in Westwood (Westwood boulevard just north of Santa Monica, west side of street) is cute, friendly, casual. It purports to be Malaysian. My boyfriend (singaporean) says it's more or less authentic, and, except for teh very plain deep fried fish we had, found it to be excellent. All sorts of bizarre ice cream/ snow cone type desserts. Very reasonably priced.

You should try Litz in Monterrey Park. It's a Hong Kong style cafe but has laksa, padang curry and an awesome Singaporean fried rice noodles with just the right amount of curry.

    2. There is a fast-food place called Singapore Express on Lincoln just North of the 90 Freeway. I can't vouch for the laksa but the por piah was very good.

The best laksa I have had was at Yazmin's Malaysian restaurant on Main Street in Alhambra. It's a bit of a hike from the Westside, but the food and serevice are excellent and the prices are very low.

Singapore Express on Lincoln in Marina del Rey is good and cheap. Keep in mind that it's very casual. It's a cute, tiny place in a little plaza. We like to get take out from them most of the time. It's the only Singaporean I know of in LA. However, if you are ever in San Francisco you must try The Straits Cafe on Geary Ave. It is out of this world!!!!!! And there is great atmosphere.
