I am in the market for a hand blender. Mind you that I live in Canada, where I don't have access to most of the deals that are available in US. I read that Cooks Illustrated rated Kitchenaid best, but it would cost me 150 CAD plus tax, oh my. I came across a contender made by Morphy Richards, which looks pretty decent; but I cannot find any reviews on the product. Anyone has any experience with them? Are they worth the 70 CAD price tag? TIA!

CI didn't rate the Bamix hand blender. The KA is not much less in $ but the Bamix is a great product and IMO better than the rest. If you haven't looked into it at least give it a glance. I don't know anything abut the Morphy Richards product.

I don't know what you're looking at, but Amazon.com has these. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_m/104-1441952-0759906?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=imersion+blenders&x=0&y=0
When I was in Canada earlier this year, the USD was on the wrong end of the exchange rate, so you should be able to get this from Amazon at a reasonable price.

Well, the problem is that you need to pay for import taxes, duties and sometimes brokerage fees if you buy anything from Amazon.com and get it shipped to Canada. Sometimes causes lots of hassle too.

Our Amazon (ca) only has books, cds and dvds unfortunately; and our big box stores like to rob us off big time.

Canadian Tire lists a Kitchenaid immersion blender for $90. I don't know if that is the same model that CI rated. But their MR model with extra attachments if only $70.

Both have multiple speeds. Alton Brown recommends one with 2 speeds, how ever I seldom have felt a need for more than one (based on experience with Braun and Cuisinart models).

Thanks,
I was looking at the one with the additional whisk; which is not available at CT and is sold at HBC at 150 CAD. 60 dollars for a whisk, oh my!

So it seems like noone has tried Morphy yet. Oh well, I guess I don't want to be the guinea pig. They look damn cool though.

I don't think Morphy is available in the USA, at least not under that name. The small pictures that I've seen on line do look interesting.

The Kitchenaid whisk looks similar to the one for my $30 Cuisinart Smartstick. The Cuisinart whisk does quick work of beating egg whites, though the twin beaters of my Braun multimixer are just as quick, and more versitile. I use the small food processor attachments as much as the immersion blender part, though they are only 2 cups capacity.

I can't give you input about the Morphy. What I can tell you is that the Kitchenaid stick blender is GREAT. The one I have has the blender attachment, whisk and - the best part - a container and food processer attachment that makes it into a 3-cup processor. It's really handy for lots of small things when I don't want to get out my bulky Cuisinart. Too bad about the shipping issues (although I have to say, it hurt when we were in Montreal last month paying Canadian prices with US dollars!).
