Anything good in the vicinity of the Galleria?

Hello Chowhounds,

It's been a very long time since I've been to Houston. Can't say that I ever new it very well in the year and a half that I lived there.

I'm going to be staying at the Intercontinental and won't have a car. What are my options? Chinese? Vietnamese? Anything decent?

Thanks in advance,

Evil Ronnie

Piatto is good, and not a chain. You can walk there. Check out reviews and menu on b4-u-eat.

Lots of upscale chains and hotel eateries, not much in the way of hole-in-the-wall eateries that Houston excels at. Up Loop 610 at San Felipe, an easy stroll, is Yia Yia Pappa Mia, the Pappas family's Greek eatery; gets mixed reviews, I've never been. Behind the hotel on S. Post Oak, n. of Westheimer, is Kenny & Ziggy's Delicatessen, one of the best in town. There's bound to be a cut-through street or walk-way so you don't have to go all the way around the block. Those would be my first 2 choices from what I know in the area.

Further up 610 past N. Post Oak are several upscale chains, I think, including McCormick and Schmick.

Here's the list from b4-u-eat.com of the 77056 zip code with maps. For reference, the Galleria is 5015 Westheimer. If you see anything you want more info about come back and ask. Other Houston hounds have more knowledge of eateries in that area that might fit the bill.

There will be websites for Yia Yia and K&Z, and probably most restos in that area.
