Cajun in the City?

Hello chowhounders! I am looking to try a good cajun restaurant this weekend. Have been to Delta Grill in the past but was wondering if there is anything other good places to try?

Please help!

How about Great Jones Cafe or Maras Homemade?

I haven't been to Mara's, but I had a coworker from NO who enjoyed Mara's. He said it was good but pricey, considering it's cajun.

I was at Mara's a few weeks back, the food was very good. The wait staff consists of a mother, father, and daughter, so the place has a nice homestyle feel to it.

There used to be an outpost of Jacques-imos (one of my favorite places in New Orleans) on Columbus in the 70s. I don't know if it is still there as I received a distressed call from a friend last week saying it had closed and wondering if it has moved. I was too busy to check on that. Not as good as in NOLA but a good place for a homesick cajun girl who needs an Abita, cornbread and some crawfish!!

I was there relatively recently (in the last 6 months), so I thought that this information was incorrect, but when I tried to call their phone number, I get a message saying that the number has been temporarily disconnected.

I only know of Delta Grill, Acme Bar, and Live Bait. I recall thinking that Delta Grill was the best of them. Live Bait is okay, but what do I know... I'm definitely no expert.

Acme Bar & Grill is hit or miss, but I think some of their stuff (fried okra, catfish, mashed potatoes) is great.

Yikes, not really. I think that Delta Grill is as good as it gets in NYC. :(

I have to agree with LeahBaila here. I grew up with several hearty Louisianans in the family and there isn't much in NYC that even approaches real, homemade Cajun.
