I'm craving pie and i don't want to go to a nice fancy restaurant, i want to go somewhere where i can either pick it up to go or enjoy it casually... as a break from running errands in tennis shoes on the weekend. and i don't have a car OR any desire to leave NW dc, so even though i know there are great places in the burbs i really won't be able to get out there (especially for pie :). thanks in advance chowhounds!

  1. I can't think of any bakeries in NW DC that are pie places, but when I'm in a pinch, Whole Foods satisfy that pie craving more than other supermarket pies. What kind are you looking for -- something great or will do in a pinch?

i'd love something great... i want to go somewhere where i can get a slice vs. a whole pie. i do NOT need a whole pie sitting at my house tempting me. otherwise i'd pick something out of the grocer's freezer :).

    2. My favorite cake slices are from Ben's chili bowl. I think they have pies, but am not sure.

      1. Not sure if they have full size pies, but they usually have these really cute mini pies at Marvelous Market in Dupont Circle. I've had the pumpkin and the pecan pies and enjoyed both.

Also Kramerbooks often times has a few pies in addition to their yummy cheese cakes and regular cakes. You can buy a slice or 2.

        1. Open City (Woodley Pk) and The Diner (Adams Morgan) have excellent pie by the slice. My fave is cherry. They are brother and sister restaurants.
