Homemade Salad Dressing Recipes!
I am in need of a French, 1000 Island and Ranch Salad Dressing recipe. Also, how long will the salad dressing keep in the refrigerator? Thanks!!
Hi there, I'm not much of a creamy dressing kinda gal myself, so I'll leave actual recipes to more able contributors, but I did want to share one little secret to making any subsequent creamy dressing recipe a real knock out... POWDERED buttermilk. I spoonful of powdered buttermilk will give whatever recipe you use a little extra sumthin sumthin that's sometimes missing from homemade vs. store bought ranch dressing. You can usually find it in the baking aisle at the grocery store.
If I knew where my More with Less cookbook was, I could tell you of 2 of the best homemeade salad dressings. If anyone has the book, the french, and the 1000 Islands dressings there are fantastic! There's a dressing there called red california, or something like that, that's very close to, but even better than the name brand catalina.
I make all my dressings in jars with lids- this allows you to shake them well before using and allows for easier refrigeration
Equal parts of
mix well and refrigerate. I am sure if kept refrigerated it will keep for a long time.
Smash/finely chop 2 cloves of garlic
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup oil (you can vary this more/less to your liking)
2 tablespoons either sugar or honey
Shake well- this too keeps very well in the fridge
1/2 cup mayo
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 sour cream
add the herbs you enjoy- like parsley, chopped garlic or whatever. Mix well and keep refrigerated.
