Somewhere fun between Long Beach and LA?

My friend who lives in Long Beach wants to take me somewhere interesting and yummy for my birthday, so I am looking for suggestions for somewhere in between. He suggested Bucco de Bepo in Redondo Beach, but I'm not too crazy about that idea, but that's an indicator of where is mind is at regarding price.

Any suggestions? TIA

Thanks for the update. I'm sad to hear Rajdoot is no more. It was a terrific place. How is Woodlands?

Woodlands is good, but I prefer tandoori meats and all the wonderfull chicken dishes you won't find in a south Indian (veggie) restaurant. Try Kamal Palace in Long Beach the buffet is excelent! Or down the street from Woodlands is The Indian Restaurant(same owner as Kamal Palace & India Cook House Irvine),I think its the best in that area.

I beg to differ with you on Kamal Palace lunch buffet. It will satisfy a craving in a pinch, but there's nothing outstanding about the selections or quality. It's a nice setting, though, in Marina Pacifica. If you're willing to drive just a bit farther south, try Bukhara on Edinger, just west of Beach, in Huntington Beach. IMHO it is far superior in quality. It's a small mom'n'pop, and I've never been disappointed. There's another Indian restaurant, called Naraj (I think) on 2nd St in Belmont Shore that has a good rep. Haven't tried it yet, though.

I have eaten in almost every Indian restaurant in So. Cal And I agree that Kamal Palace is not the Best, It is the best in this area along with The Indian Rest, much better than Natraj Belmont Shore. Bukhara has a great buffet too. Try Royal Khyber in South coast Village,Great lunch specials very different they do pasta and all sorts of wonerfull variations on tradional Indian menu. Nizam In Westwood has some of the Best Indian Food Ive ever had, Ive never had their buffet I've always ordered off the menu.
