Best Cheese Plate in LA?
Any cheesers out there have an opinion on the best restaurant cheese selection in LA? I'm a fine-cheese novice but recently had a good plate at Campanile. Also, I'd be interested in any hints from the experienced at how to judge a restaurant's cheese selection before ordering or going in. What are the good and bad signs to look for? Many thanks.
I was recently at Patina on Melrose and they had an outstanding cheese cart that followed our meal. Not only was the selection of cheeses amazing, the server knew everything about each one, which is rare these days. Another great cheese plate is served at the Ritz Carleton in Marina Del Rey. You can sit on the patio overlooking the harbor and hava glass of wine with some delicious cheeses.
Since you mentioned Patina, we had four perfectly ripe favorites, including Livarot and Pont l'eveque (sp?) at Pinot Provence last week, along with a generally terrific meal which overcame even our admittedly strong anti-hotel restaurant bias. Cheese seems to be a strength of the entire Pinot empire.
