Slow response time - caused by video?

I have DSL and although I initially get into CH fairly quickly, scrolling and moving around has become really slow. I don't think the video was there the last time I was using the site a lot - maybe ~6 months ago? I will frequently get an inset window asking something like - "do you want to end the Flash program that is slowing the system?" I can't imagine what is causing this other than the video.

  1. We do have some people who have problems with the video player slowing down their response time, but it's been a difficult problem to track down in more detail.

I'm hopeful some upcoming changes with video playback may solve this problem as a side effect of other changes.

Since the video does not auto-play when the web page loads, I would assume that the browser is just busy rendering the video box ?

Per , maybe you want to insert Javascript at the end of the HTML ?

    2. I don't know if it's caused by the video or not, but both on my computer at home and my computer at work, chowhound pages have been *extremely* slow to load these past few days. Today it's so bad that I've given up trying to read it. It's especially slow to load the "boards" page, and to use the back button to return to a given board after reading a post.
