It ain't mexican if it don't have LARD!!! (and it doesn't taste good either). So my unwanted advice is to eat all lard presented, and run it off at the track.

There are grillions of Mexican dishes that have no lard, including corn tortillas.

They had a special of chile relleno in a cream sauce last Tuesday when I stopped by on my way up to the bay area. Very oozy-cheesy and creamy -- probably not the best choice for someone lactose intolerant -- but delicious nonetheless. Besides this, there weren't many choices for vegetarians.

It's actually in Santa Barbara, not the L.A. area.

One of their classics is a taco of hot grilled peppers and cheese. Seafood specials. Also yummy gorditas, fat little tortilla pies stuffed with beans. But I don't know about the lard in the dough.
