Foodie Trek - Midway report
I'm currently in Manhattan for some training down in the Financial District. I made it a point to do some research here prior to my trip. So far so good.
Sunday - I got in late Sunday afternoon so I didn't have a lot of time. I set out to scope out the area of my hotel. I ended up eating at Becketts on Stone St. It was actually quite good. I had the calamari appetizer, which had tomatos, kalamata olives, and aioli (sp?) sauce. For the main course I had the flank steak sandwich which was pretty tasty.
Monday - I'm in training down near Battery Park, so my options seem to be limited. I had lunch at Ray's Empanadas. I chose the rice/bean and Argentian Sausage empanada combo. It was good and hit the spot. For dinner I took a cab over to the time Warner building at went to Porter House. I've read everywhere that one of the best steaks i In the city is the Cajun Rubbed Rib Eye. I ordered that along with the mushroom side. The steak was very good, but you know, I believe I've had better. It was tasty, but not $48 tasty. The mushrooms were great, and so were the 2 Dirty Martinis that I had. The Bartender made those perfectly.
Tuesday - I went to Rockwells for lunch because time was limited, and had a mediocre pastrami sandwich. I'm being kind with saying "mediocre." I just got back from Chinatown where I went to the Peking Duck House for dinner. I pigged, or shall I say, ducked, out on my own, whole Peking duck. It was excellent. Simple, with very good Plum sauce. I washed it down with a couple Tsingtao beers. I walked off dinner by perusing Chinatown and making my way to Soho.
So, I have a couple more nights of eating that I'm looking forward to. My wife joins me on Thursday and we have reservations for Del Posto.
I've basically been winging every night. Anyone else have any recommendations of places I should go whose cuisine I haven't hit yet; Sushi, Pizza, etc...
Thanks, and I'm loving the food selections here.
