Best burger in the quarter?

amykragan Jan 8, 2008 09:16 AM

Is Port O Call the best place to grab a good burger or is there another place I should try?

Clover Grill has great burgers (and a really great breakfast as well). You may prefer Port O Call, but I would give CG a try as well!

Haven't tried either one but clover grill looks interesting. Especially since the burgers are cooked under a hubcap!?
      Thanks for the suggestion!

Clover Grill has a diner ambiance and really good food all around, and some really interesting patrons, especially after 1:00 AM or so.

Port of Call will probably get the nod for best FQ burger from most people, and they could be right. But I was really pleased with the burger I had at Yo Mama's.

I've had both- Clover Grill is the best, all the way!

They are both fun places to go and both have good burgers, but Port of Call is without a doubt the best burger in the French Quarter. Arguably the best burger in the city.

Depends on what you want in a burger. If you're after a big hunk o' meat, then Port of Call is the place to go. If it's overall flavor, then it's Clover Grill's smaller patty.

I'm an overall flavor guy myself. I want to be full, not stuffed.

That's a loaded way to put it! They're different burgers. It's not that the CG burger has more "overall flavor" in any absolute sense. You prefer it, so you find it more flavorful!

I generally prefer a more more modest size burger, too, but I LOVE the POC burger. It's been too long since I had a CG burger, so I can't make a direct comparison.

but isn't Port of Call, just outside the FQ? It's on Esplanade if i'm not mistaken.

It's on the FQ side of Esplanade (the upriver side), so it's in the quarter.

I think Yo Mama's is VERY close to POC. Plus, there's never a wait.

Port of Call is very good, but just be prepared to wait if you arrive during the busiest times. We arrived at what we thought was "early" around 5pm and still had to wait 40-45 minutes for a table for 2.

The Clover Grill staff is hilarious. They gave me hell about adding a fried egg to my burger, but you know, in that friendly-I'm-only-joking kind of fashion.

though technically not in the FQ - the RedEye (warehouse district) has great burgers

Also not officially in the Quarter, b/c its on the Marigny side of Esplanade, but Buffa's has wonderful, juicy burgers. Their not as big as POC, but its plenty of food and not the rediculous wait. I also love the burgers @ Verti Mart when I'm hung over, they're sloppy greasy, cheesy, and good!
