beignets

Help -

I have been craving beignets for weeks, and I know of no place local to find them. Last time this happened, I had to drive to San Luis Obispo..

I too am looking for beignets. I had them in New Orleans, along with a drink-and-drive Mai Tai (I don't know how they can do that)! Do the 2 places in Farmer's Market still sell beignets?

The Gumbo Pot still has them as I recall.

I believe Rajin Cajun in Hermosa does beignets on Sunday mornings.

Uncle Darrow's in Marina Del Rey. On Lincoln just north of Washington. Saw them on the menu, didn't order them. Isn't there a place on Pico in Santa Monica called Cafe Beignet?

Just around the corner from the Municipal complex?

There used to be a Cafe Beignet at the bowling alley on Pico in SM.
It's been gone for 4 years.

By the way, where do you get them in San Luis?

Big Sky Cafe. Although I never would have thought to think of this natural foods joint as a place to eat a great unhealthy food like beignets, they are consistently good. The order comes with 3 varieties: sugar, chocolate, and raspberry. You can mix and match.

The Gumbo Pot at the Farmer's Market (3rd & Fairfax) has them. They seem to use Cafe Du Monde mix. Personally, I think they're too heavy -- too much dough and not enough air. They have plain and chocolate, though I've never tried the chocolate.

Bob's at Farmers Market also has beignets--very light with lots of powdered sugar.
