Angie's grand re-opening
I've noticed an occasional "OPEN" sign at the new Angie's location (1300 block of E. 7th, south side of street) and stopped by last night to try for dinner. They weren't open yet but were setting up for a grand re-opening today, Monday, from 10-2. The woman I spoke with said they should be open Thursday - Saturday for the time being. Sorry I don't know hours or phone number.
Thought you Angie's fans would want to know.

I tried Angies for the first time a few weeks ago at the new location. The situation was exactly as Honeybee described. First thing I noticed was that much of the food was of the yellow cheese food group. I ordered the carnitas plate but was disappointed with the lack of flavor and tortillas. The salsa was hot but served in a large thimble. I was done before the meal even came out. Beans were dry and somewhat undercooked. There was plenty of pork but it was almost pureed. Looks like they have too many people working there. I found the same type of situation at El Taquito last night.
And yes I am a little cranky.
But I did try La Hacienda Saturday and enjoyed it.
I still can't find carnitas that top Habenero. -
Went to the new location last week for lunch. I had very high hopes for the new location, and it is nice, but little was done to address some of the challenges posed by the old location.
First, the good:
The place is clean and much brighter than the old location. The carnitas tacos, the only thing I ever order there, were delicous. The refried beans were nice and salty and the salsa was particularly spicy.
The bad:
There was mahem inside because nobody seemed to be in charge. Despite a crowd gathering in the lobby, there were up to 6 empty tables that needed to be cleared. One of the six tops sat open for more than 20 minutes before someone bussed it. When the tables finally were cleared, they were all sat simultaneously and this created a back log in the kitchen. Overall, the wait to get seated and the wait for the food made my lunch drag out to almost two hours--not something I can really do on a workday. There did not seem to be a designated busser, nor a designated hostess taking names for people once they entered. It all seemed extremely inefficient.I was also disappointed that Angie's did not use the move to upgrade ...no automated ordering system for the staff, only a few more tables in the dining room, and only marginally better parking options. Yet, there was a ton of wated space in a hallway leading to the bathrooms.
I really like Angie's and would love to see someone with managerial restaurant experience work with the staff to create better systems and smoother service. I see such potential in the place, but am afraid customers will seek other options if they can't get their act together. Hopefully, things will be smoothed out soon.
