Savvanah Takeout - BBQ, Pizza, Chinese ?

Visiting Savannah next week and looking for takeout to bring to a person who doesn't get out much.
I've heard Saigon was good for Vietnamese.
Any opinions on Vinnie Van Go-Go's or Johnny Harris's?
Oh,I'd love a pecan pie rec, too.

Are you flying down or driving? There's a place in Hilton Head that serves a very mean bbq. Especially their baby backs. Some of the best I've tasted.

Charleston is SO good. If you get a chance, don't forget to take the world famous coconut cake from the Peninsual Grill at the Planters Inn. Even if you don't like coconut, you'll love this!

In Savannah, there are tons of places, but the names all escape me right now, Somewhere near The Lady & Sons is a good steak place.

Swing by Hilton Head then. Go to The Smokehouse and pick up some smoked baby backs. I found them to be delicious. Their brisket and pulled pork is also very good as are the sides. Really delicious stuff.

There's also a place called Cripple Crab on Hwy 17 in Hardeeville, SC (if you're taking that route), they make terrific oyster soup. One of the best I've tasted. That' all I'd get from there though. The rest of their food is real crap.

I went to a drive thru Chinese a couple of weeks ago called Egg Roll King on E. Victory Blvd. It's one of the better Americanized Chinese places I've tried. Most of the ingredients were fresh and tasty but like I say it is Americanized.

Americanized is fine. I'm bringing him down things like ham egg foo yung and chop suey.
He's no spring chicken and I think all the Chinese places he went to were American style.

My favorite Midtown spots (i live on 56th and Habersham): King and I- Thai,New South Cafe-greeat take out, Toucan Cafe-carrib/fusion, Carraway Cafe- gourmet takeout, Sweet Potatoes-semicasual southern, Holland House- best 6dollar cafe style in town!! Saigon Flavors, next to the sex shop on Waters Ave. is outstanding.
Stay away from Old Savannah Diner, Kaceys, Bella, Clary's, Exchange, and Chen's: All midtown's worse places for various reasons.
As for PecanPie- Head down to the river, River House Bakery, next to the RiverHouse Seafood restuarant; best pecan pie in town!!!!

My father, actually.
He's in Midtown I believe it's called. Near the southern edge of Hunter Army air base, not far from Abercorn.
However, since I now ship or bring Chinese food down with me anything in the Savannah area will be fine. Definitely willing to drive for the good stuff.
Places in the area that deliver would also be nice though.

I think the best sub we had there was from Lenny's. Anything better?

He's really looking for comfort food from Boston.

I really enjoyed Vinnie's the last time I was down there (in July). Johnny Harris is probably fine for takeout but even better to eat there with its straight-outta-the-70's decor.
