Nice but not fancy dinner in Houston

We're flying into Sugar Land Regional Airport tomorrow evening and are staying with friends who live near I-10 and Wirt Road. Any suggestions for a nice but not fancy dinner between Sugar Land and that area of Houston?

I haven't been to either of these...not my part of town, but they are supposed to be good.

Amici is a wonderful Italian place, but it would be about five miles in the wrong direction.
Aura is even further in the wrong direction.

I would suggest going to http://www.b4-u-eat.com and entering zips 77042 and 77079 for the types of food you want, along with your friends' zip code.

    2. Nice but not fancy is very vague; can you narrow that down by type of cuisine, etc?

We're not too picky -- New American, Thai, upscale Mexican and Greek sound good right now. Thanks!

This is probably too late but I didn't flash on the Wirt road mention previously. At that location you will be very close to Goode Co. Texas Seafood and Goode Co. BBQ on I-10. Neither is the very best at what they do in H but are above average chow. I'd tend to go for the non-traditional duck at the bbq place rather than Texas trinity of brisket/ribs/sausage.

Also probably too late, but Escalante's Mexican Grill is really good. Here is a link:

Also there is a really good chinese restaurant by Bunker Hill (close to Wirt) named China View. Order off the menu, do NOT go to the buffet!

        2. I would be at Vieng Thai all day long. Best thai in town IMO. The massaman curry is out of this world,. The papaya salad and the laarb are also really good. However, it is a hole in the wall. BYOB!
