Oh yes!! I'm Polish and I grew up in Oshawa - my father (now deceased) was one of the founding members of the Veteran's Hall and so I am very familiar with the Red Room! Once a year my family goes to mass at the Polish church, visits the cemetery, then goes to the Red Room for lunch. It is VERY retro, and the bartender there has been working Sundays there for 18 years or something. I would forego the "mixed plate" and try to share the cabbage rolls, pierogi, saurkrat, and shishkebabs. Try the meat pierogi too - they taste just like my mom used to make (as a child I begged for Chef Boyardee canned ravioli, my mother fed me meat pierogi with tomato sauce!). The annual day we chose to go there coincides with Polish Independence Day (May 3) so the Vets, who had dressed up to go to mass, end up there for a bite. It hits close to home for me since my dad was a war vet, but kind of neat to see them dressed up in their uniforms - their numbers are dwindling and it won't be long before they are all gone!

Dzien dobry!
As it happens, my mother-in-law and husband are both Polish. Polish Independence Day sounds like a great evening out.
From the website (link provided below) it sounds like this is actually a banquet hall that also runs a restaurant on Sundays from 1 p.m to 9 p.m.

Can anyone advise if this place is child-friendly (my kids are 3 yrs and 1 yrs old)? Is it really busy on PI day? Should we book a reservation in advance?

re: wheresthafood
Yes it is a banquet hall - I went to a lot of weddings and cultural events here when I was younger. Definitely child-friendly - meaning they would certainly not be out of place, but whether they have booster seats etc. I'm not so sure. I doubt they take reservations, but it shouldn't be a problem getting a seat. We're usually there about 1 or 2, and it is never very busy. Smacznego!!
