Barstow Delights?

I'm taking a trip to Death Valley in a week or so (all possible jokes acknowledged). I'm asssuming that we'll be lunching in Barstow or environs. Any suggestions? We'll be staying at the Furnace Creek Inn, but are there other places to consider in the area and for the return trip?
Thanks.

In Baker (gateway to Death Valley) Bun Boy and The Mad Greek reign supreme. They're both OK too considering you're in the middle of the Mojave dessert. The Bun Boy boasts the world's tallest thermometer as well. If you are going between May and October my prayers are with you and bring three or four sun hats!

The food at The Mad Greek is far better than it needs to be merely to stay in business. Or perhaps it's that when you have come across 115 degree desert in a convertible, a Greek salad tastes like it comes directly from the hands of the gods of Mount Olympus.

I was ( about a fortnight ago ) en route to las Vegas with big Broth and drawn by the lure of the World's largest thermometer, stopped in Baker.

We had a perfectly OK brekkie, but the loudness of the bazouki music made me realise why the greek went mad. It reminded me of the Monty Python cheese shop sketch ( for those of us of more vintage years ) and even made me wish I had stepped across the road to The Bun Boy.
