Eatin' at Udupi, Dreamin' of Kabana Drivin' by 900 Grayson

  • 4

A friend and I were looking forward to dinner and gossip at Kabana tonight. When we got to the intersection of University and San Pablo in Berkeley, however, all was dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew. Power outage. Nix on Kabana.

So we drove up University and had dinner at Udupi Palace. The food was fine, but we were really hoping for a Kabana meal. Udupi's masala dhosas aren't as great as Vik's.

Anyway, returning to Oakland, I was driving along 6th Street and noticed that not only was 900 Grayson lit up, there were people inside. Hmmm. Have they gotten a license to serve dinner or is this just a private party? I asked myself this question, did not have the answer and now put it to you guys.

  1. 900 Grayson has had a permit sign up in their front window for at least a month (maybe more?), indicating they were going through the permitting process to extend their hours through dinner (woo-hoo!).

Their website doesn't post a dinner menu or extended hours yet, so I don't know if what you witnessed was private or not. http://www.900grayson.com/

    1. I just called 900 Grayson...

They are not open for dinner. What you saw was a private party. They're still working with the city, and they hope to open for dinner sometime this year.

      1. Udupi now has beer & wine.
