Where are the best mashed potatoes in LA?

Call us crazy, but when celebrating a wonderful event, my wife and I like nothing more than a great dish of mashed potatoes. Searching for a suitable restaurant a few nights ago, we began to wonder who might have the best mashed potatoes in LA.
So jonesing for vinyl booths and old-fashioned service were we, we drove into the valley for Monty's Steakhouse. Their mashed potatoes were, if standard, completely satisfying...fluffy and smooth.
But we're always on the lookout for new and better ideas!
(Bonus: anyone who can recommend a place to find mashed potatoes squirted from a pastry tube on the edge of a plate, and then top-browned in an oven, a la Scandia, will receive our enternal gratitude...)

You'll find the best mashed potatoes at my house. Don't waste your time eating out. Here's what you do:
Peel and boil your potatoes. After draining the potatoes, sautee as much garlic as you can stand in olive oil in the same pot you boiled the potatoes in. Right when the garlic begins to turn brown, add the potatoes and mash them together. Add plenty of butter, milk, salt and pepper and you'll have the best mashed potatoes money can buy. Trust me.
Around four years ago the garlic mashed potatoes at Water Grill were the best I'd ever had. I don't know if the recipe is still the same, as the chef is different now.
