Where can I find beginner cooking classes in LA?

I am looking for cooking classes that start at a very basic/beginner level. I have no cooking experience but recently I have been so dissapointed with the meals I have been eating out that I would like to try cooking for myself for a change. I live in Hollywood and would like to find something reasonably close, within 20-30 minute drive.
Any community college has beginning classes for aspiring home cooks, usually taught by qualified chefs. CSCA in Pasadena has daily demos for free and are always interesting to watch. For more expensive courses, check out a cooking school guidebook (available at any major book store) for a complete listing of cooking classes in your area.
CSCA (California School of Culinary Arts) has an excellent basic cooking skills class that meets over 11 Saturday mornings or Tuesday evenings. It's actually 3 sets of 3-4 classes; I recommend taking all 11 in one shot to really get the full benefit at once. Importantly, these are hands-on classes, not demos, in which *you* will be cooking with the assistance of 2 or 3 of your classmates, and the (wonderful) instructor and a few of their professional program students assisting. They're at http://www.calchef.com. They also have demonstrations, but I recommend the classes.
