Stainless Steel Bento Boxes -- Do they even exist?

Miss Needle Jan 4, 2008 02:45 PM

Hi. I've got a Ms. Bento and DH has a Mr. Bento. They're great except that I'd prefer stainless steel to plastic. Does anybody have information as to where I can find something like that? I'm looking for something like a tiffin wallah except that it would be insulated. Any help would be appreciated.

Pearl River has several stainless steel options. The three compartment style looks a lot like a dabba. Hope this helps.

It's not exactly I was looking for as I'm ideally looking for a three compartment style that goes inside an insulated container. But I may be able to fashion one up by buying the round individual stainless steel lunch boxes and putting them in my Mr. and Ms. Bento. Thanks so much. As I live near Pearl River, I'll check it out this week.

Zojirushi makes a stainless steel insulated bento box, which look a little like a thermos from the outside.

You might also look at indian tiffin boxes, which are nearly always stainless steel. I haven't seen insulated ones, but I haven't been looking. Tiffin boxes look like this:

There's this place -- Happy Tiffin -- They sell insulated covers for their stacking tiffin boxes (tiffin wallahs are the guys who deliver the tiffin lunches in India) -- http://www.happytiffin.com/insulated-...

Also LunchBots and Steeltainer sell all kinds of stainless bento boxes with two, three and four compartments and lids that can be put into any soft-sided insulated lunchbox for the same effect: --

And here's a set with a hard metal thermal cover on eBay India that might be just what you wanted. Don't know what the procedure is for ordering/bidding from here - http://www.ebay.in/itm/Hot-Case-Vaccu...

I don't know if these fit your needs or not. Rakuten can be a little bit more of a challenge to order from (sometimes) depending upon which Japanese company fulfills the order. You may need to go through a shipping broker.
