Best restaurant near PDX?

I am local and taking friends to dinner near PDX (only in town for an evening).
Suggestions on a really good dining experience?

  1. By PDX-I mean close to the airport since that is where they are staying and have limited time here.

    1. Malay Satay Hut, Pho Van or Country Cat. All within 10 minutes of the airport. All very good.

      1. Fife on NE Fremont is pretty convenient to the airport, and would be a good place to take people from out of town.

        1. I love Malay Satay hut...great variety and DELICIOUS!

          1. Ya Hala is right across the street from Country Cat. The decor is a little old and worn, but they have a mezza plate with pita bread that comes out hot and puffed up to the size of a football, decent hummus and this really good smoky baba ghanouj. I can make a meal of the appetizer plate.

I'll second Country Cat. Its charming, has great food and really spot on service.

Chipqmunk - I used to love Ya Hala but had a few BIG misses about 2 years ago and never went back. Are they better? Is it only their veggie entrees that are good?

Sebetti, I can only speak for a few items on the menu. I don't go that often, so I keep getting the same thing (the mixed plate of hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouli, falafel, stuffed grape leaves and fried cauliflower).
I have also tried the lamb shawarma sandwich (good flavor, a little too much sauce), kibbeh (good), sambousak (kind of plain mini meat pies, mine came with slivered almonds instead of the advertised pine nuts), fatoush salad (tossed with too much dressing and too strong, would be better with more plain lettuce), baklava (I like Greek style better).
