Indian vegetarian

  • 6

Looking for an Indian vegetarian place -- the strict type that serves no meat dishes at all in the building, preferably in Little India. I had one recommendation for Siddharta. Feedback on that, and any other recommendations welcome.

Anything with meat in the menu fails to qualify as one of the guests won't eat there.

  1. can't vouch for it personally but Udupi Palace, same area as Siddhartha, is supposed to be completely meatless and gets good comments on this board (click on the place link and you'll see all the other posts that mention it) -

Definitely Saravanaa Bhavan for south indian veggie.

      2. I've gone to the Siddharta buffet place and to Udupi Palace. Both are very good, the only choice is whether you want the buffet experience or prefer service. Also, Siddharta is considerably smaller, so you can also decide on whether you prefer smaller spaces or a larger setting.

Note there are two Siddhartha's on Gerrard (as well as one on King W). All offer buffet as well as a la carte menu but only Siddhartha Vegetarian at 1411 Gerrard East is 100% vegetarian. Another difference: Udupi is southern Indian (dosas, etc) while Siddhartha is north Indian (heavier sauces). Udupi is also a big family-style basement (lots of kids) while smaller Siddhartha's attracts the CBC/Globe crowd.

          Depends what you're after.

        2. Udupi Palace is really bad and I think people go there because there are few vegetarian places. The thali is bad and only one good dish and the rest were watery and tasteless. The dosa was awful as well. All of us went there hoping for a nice meal but left disappointed.
