I'll Fornellio - Winterdelicious

millygirl Jan 4, 2008 09:17 AM

I noticed today that I'll Fornello is featuring a 'local' menu special called Winterdelicious beginning January 7th running for a few weeks - 3 courses $25. Sounds like a great deal to me.

While I enthusiastically support a chain resto getting into the local food movement, I don't think their Danforth location is up to the task yet. Don't know about other locations. Meh.

Funny but I've never associated I'll Fornello as being a chain. Certainly they are, but I believe in a much different class than the others that immediately come to mind. We've had some very enjoyable meals there.

While we agree they're in a different class, I'm speaking from the experience of having ordered exclusively from their Ontario menu with the attitude that I really wanted to like it. I think a chain proving the economics of local food can work would be a great thing. I would try it again if I hear its improved.

Gotcha. Must admit I haven't been in awhile and then only for the standard pizza and pasta's. Just noticed the price and it seemed like a good deal. I actually like the atmosphere of the Danforth location.

Remember that their Ontario menu is seasonal, so it changes every few weeks or so (possibly less at this time of year). We tried the Ontario menu when they first started it back in the summer and liked some things and didn't like some others. But that's what great about seasonal eating - there's always something new around the corner.

How did you know I was blonde? Do they change the Danforth kitchen staff seasonally? That's my issue. The paints need an artist.

Ah, your lower comment read as if you had an issue with the menu. Sorry. I'd guess if the food is consistently bad at the Danforth location that heading to another one might be your best bet.

I've been to the Danforth location a few times and have always left satisfied. No, it's not the best meal or even close but hey, we're talking 3 courses $25 bucks - for a cheap and cheerful night out - I think it's a pretty good bargain. It is what it is.

Hey not to beat a dead horse or anything but just came back from a walk along the Danforth and it occured to me why I am so gungho on I'll Fornello's winterdelicious event. As mentioned many times before, the Danforth has too many subpar greek restaurants that are all the same, I'm just happy to have another option close to home and salute them for trying something different.

millygirl, if it works for you please let us all know. The Danforth location is a convenient spot for a girlie meet-up between work and home.

Personally I'm going to try the Church & Wellesley location's Ontario menu. It isn't exactly a hotbed of great restaurants around there so one would be an increase of 100%.

Hey, Googs! How was the Church&Wellesley location?

Haven't gone yet. Hubby finds the Ontario apps somewhat frou-frou. Waiting for the next menu.

Got a flyer from the Queens Quay location offering the same thing. The items do not look very interesting.
