Great non-Italian dinner tonight?

A friend who lives in Italy is coming to town tonight, and I want to take her to a GREAT meal (that does not involve Italian food). Somewhere downtown would be best, though I'm open to suggestions. Thanks!

Why not bring her to something very American, like BBQ? You can go to Hill Country for a rustic decor, or Blue Smoke for a slightly upscale (still casual) space with some Jazz too!

If you want elegant, then I seoncd Allen and Delancey. But it may be very hard to get a reservation! For elegant French (contemporary), Eleven Madison Park will fit your need.

Pangea is a great restaurant in East Village. Nice bar and excellent drinks. Very cool atmosphere. 178 2nd Ave.

If visiting from Europe, I'd say go with Latin or sushi. 15 East would be a great scene for the latter. For Latin, try Rayuela, Mercadito Grove or Crema.
