Sure thing, man.

#1) DeGlazen Toren Canaster - Winter Scotch ale, produced in Belgium.

#2) Jolly Pumpkin Noel De Calabaza - Belgian-style winter beer, barrel-aged, produced in Michigan.

#3) 2005 Thomas Hardy's - bottle-conditioned Old Ale, produced in England.

Glad you enjoyed them. There are some other good ones on the list you should try if you make it back there. The Samichlaus, for one, is akin to the Thomas Hardy's.

I was going to ask Josh the same thing - you beat me!

Josh which was the english beer at HWC that you said is similar to T. Hardys?

I have to mention how much I enjoyed the progression of beers that we had - and what a great finish with the dried-fruit nuanced port-esque T. Hardy!

JW Lees Harvest Ale. It's another English Old Ale, also around 11.5%. Like the Hardy's, it's a vintage ale meant for aging, so you can usually find some on their shelves that date back a few years. I apologize now for doing my part to drink through their stash of 1998 bottles.

This style is also sometimes produced domestically. One good example that you can typically find at Whole Foods is North Coast Brewing's Old Stock Ale. It's also intended for aging, and is quite nice (though it's no JW Lees or Hardy's).

That's exactly what I had in mind when I saved your list, Josh. Although I'm on the right coast, I hope to find those beers at a liquor store in my area...Boston. Will I be successful, do you think?

I would think so. Thomas Hardy's will be easiest to find of the three, but a good shop specializing in beer should have the other two. You might want to check http://www.beeradvocate.com and see if there are any spots listed for Boston.

Please move back to California Board
Went back last night hoping to see Josh!

Alas, I made friends with a neighboring table and was offered up some Pilny the Elder - which I had only once last April. This stuff from Russian River is great - as noticed by one of my new friends - it has this slightly herbal, addicting aroma which is hard to place.

I also had the Cucupa Imperial stout from the Tj brewing company. I really enjoyed this for a darker beer. I am not to fond of their "Guera" Czech style beer but would gladly order this again.

Living in NYC now, I do miss certain places though. I had a vertical tasting of Anchor xmas last night 1999 and 2000. Both held up really well, the 99 was significantly spicier than the 00.
