my week of downtown dining

i stayed downtown this past week for work. not wanting to waste the opportunity to check out some of the many dining options there, i tried quite a few restaurants including ciudad, cafe pinot, nick & stef's, checkers, & mccormick & schmicks.

a couple of highlights:

cafe pinot's patio is nice for dinner & they serve a great croissant pudding dessert. the three mustard chicken signature dish i ordered was too tangy for me. the reviews were mixed on the food here, but a pleasant atmosphere.

nick & stef's - i like the decor. i had a decent new york steak which was good when the sauces were added. ok potato dishes & desserts.

ciudad - i had an incredible halibut special with shrimp, and an impressive macademia nut & banana tart for dessert. the decor is ugly IMO, and the seats not all that comfortable. the atmosphere is lively and loud. food wise, this place was the most impressive of the bunch.

checkers - expensive & formal. i only went for breakfast so i can't comment too much on the food. the oatmeal with dried fruits was good.

mccormick & schmick's - great happy hour deals including several dishes for $1.95 like a burger & fries. can't say the food was good, but it certainly is cheap.

i would have liked to have gone to the water grill but it was packed every night and we couldn't get reservations at a time that worked for us.

Thanks for the informative updates. Try Checkers for dinner, especially on a weekend when it's virtually empty (bad for them, good for us). The cacophony of the Water Grill on weekends makes it a second choice despite the better food.
