El Toreo

JustinRush Mar 28, 2001 11:34 AM

Had lunch at EL TOREO (on Fair Oaks in Pasadena) yesterday and was a bit let down. It was not nearly as good as it was the first couple times I was there. Beans were soupy thin and rice was a little watery as well. Hardshell shredded beef tacos were nice, especially loaded up with their consistantly killer salsa verde, but the enchiladas and rellenos were off. Anyone know this place?-this was my third visit and I have a long way to go to get through the menu, but I'll probably give up before that happens. Anything standoutish here that I'm missing or should I just move on? Recs appreciated.

I used to love El Toreo in the late 70s - early 80s when Old Pasadena was still Pasadena's skid row, but I'm not sure now if it was that good or if my experience was so limited that I thought it was good. The last time I tried it, about five or six years ago, I found it mediocre at best.
