Sesame Balls

  • 1

So about 15 years ago and for many years before that I remember going to Kim's Oriental Grocery in St. Paul. South of 94 on Lexington I believe. On Sundays they had Sesame Balls with a mung bean and coconut mixture in them. They were awesome. When they stopped having them we were told it was a grandma who made them and she had gotten too old to continue. It is the only place I've had them in the Twin Cities but I thought someone might be able to provide some insight to where I could find them elsewhere. Bonus points if they don't turn a brown paper bag into a see-thru bag (greasy!)

Also does anyone know where these are from? Vietnamese? the ones from Chinese places usually have red bean paste, while good, aren't what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

  1. I've seen them at various Southeast Asian grocery stores in St Paul - Double Dragon Foods off Rice and Roselawn (?) has them pretty regularly. I also have seen them at the Shuang Hur grocery store on University Avenue on weekend. Try also the Foodsmart store right on University and Dale - I thought I saw them sold fresh and the customers were putting them into the brown paper bag that you are referring to.
