Where to buy fresh crawfish in the Philly area?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the 3rd month of my pregnancy and have such a huge craving for crawfish. Not just crawfish -- I want to boil it in a big pot with corn on the cob New Orleans style! It is crazy because I've never had it that way in my life, but have seen pics of a crawfish boil online and it just makes me drool.

Can anyone help a pregnant woman out and tell her where to find fresh/live crawfishes in the Philly area? I think they are in season now, or will be soon? I don't think the frozen ones will taste any good in the kind of boil I want to do. So far I've been somewhat satisfying my craving by eating them at a Chinese buffet in Northeast Philly... but I want the fresh ones!

Thanks so much.

Call Ippolitos at 13th and Dickenson. If they don't have them they will get them for you within 48 hours!

That is a tough one. I haven't bought fresh for a few years but if memory serves me right, It is very seasonal. Hills Seafood used to get it in late Winter/early Spring (I could be wrong. I remember doing a bit of research and found out best to order online from South. Find a friend to split the costs.

Good Luck. The industry in LA has been undercut by South East Asia. There are still plenty to be had, but hard to come by. We still have a month and a half before they are in season. Look at the end of March through April.
