Chinese Wedding banquets in Eastbay

Hi Everyone,
My Fiancee and I are looking for a nice restaurant for our wedding reception for Sping of 2009. We are interested in Chinese cuisine restaurants that are reasonable in price. We want something that is nice, dancefloor ,has great food and that can accomadate 450 + guests, most of which are asian so the food needs to be good. Any feedback on places, restaurants , or other catered banquet options will be appreciated!!

Thank You So Much!!!

  1. It might be hard for you to find a Chinese restaurant in the East Bay that will fill all your needs.

    1) Restaurant Peony (Oakland Chinatown, parking garage downstairs) -- I've attended a wedding banquet there for approx. 400ppl. small dance floor
    2) East Ocean (Emeryville) -- haven't attended a banquet there in yrs, not sure if they have a dance floor.
    3) Legendary Palace -- Oakland Chinatown -- Not sure if they'd fit 450ppl
    4) Asia Pearl (Pacific East Mall, Richmond) -- You'd have to call them, 450 might be pushing it.

Would you consider places other than the East Bay?

Yes, I would, anything that will accomadate 450+ or do you know a hall that is big enough and I can just have food catered? Thanks so much..!!!

Mayflower (Milpitas) and Dynasty (Sunnyvale) are both very popular choices in the South Bay.

Question -- Were you asking about the East Bay b/c your ceremony is there or possibly b/c alot of your guest are from there? If the ceremony is there, it'd probably be best to have your banquet in that area instead of having 400+ guests driving 45mins (in good traffic) down 880 and back after a big dinner/drinking and partying.

          Asian Pearl

    2. Peony should fit the party, though the column that are spread throughout the restaurant can get annoying for some of your guests. The food is sometimes good but sometimes not, you really have to spot check them sometimes to make sure you order the right menu items.

East Ocean probably has the best view of the sunset and it can fit 450. I believe they can clear out a dancefloor if you're planning on doing it after the primary banquet activities, there's not quite enough room otherwise. Also, the banquet room there is long and narrow so it can make it hard for the guests on either end.

Legendary Palace would be a tight fit, I don't think you'd fit 450 into any one of their floors. I think the last wedding I went to there had about 250-300 and it was hard to move around.

Asia pearl, you'd have to check with them cause kc72 is right, it'd be close to capacity but the food is much better there.

      Other suggestions:
East Ocean (Alameda) much better food IMO than any of the above for banquets though it might be a tight fit, and it would definitely take the whole restaurant, but since the remodeled, it's much more appropriate for banquets than before. Not sure about the dancefloor.

Mayflower in Milpitas off McCarthy Ranch. pretty sure you can fit 450 with room to spare and the food has been good the 3 times I've gone for weddings. Yes they can put in a dance floor.

Make sure you order the BBQ seabass at both of these.
