Galette des rois

yow yul Jan 2, 2008 01:54 PM

January 6 - Epiphany is this weekend. My mom used to invite friends we didn't see during the holidays over for dinner. She usually just served regular cake with a bean and pea in it, but I was thinking it would be fun to serve a traditional Galette des rois instead.

Do any of the bakeries make Galette des rois - the one made with puffed pastry and frangipane filling? or maybe there are other filling flavours to choose from?

If not, any recommendations on where to buy the ingredients for frangipane?

I'm certain the main bakeries in town have the Galette de Rois.

Pain Doré, Gascogne, Première Moisson will have some.

Au Pain Doré definitely has it for sale. Can't vouch for the quality, however. It might be worth your while to call Duc de Lorraine, Lescurier, Paltoquet, Le Fromentier, Fous Desserts and Les Saveurs du Plateau to inquire whether any of them -- all generally superior to Au Pain Doré, Première Moisson and Pâtisserie de Gascogne when it comes to pastries -- make it.

Premiere Moisson definitely has them, and sells them with a paper crown.

        They have 2 sizes.
