J. J.'s Pasadena - Any Good? Other Steak Choices?

Looking for good juicy steaks in the area, other than Arroyo Chop House, in the Pas area. Tell me we don't have to drive all the way to Grace or Cut. Though the best steaks I've found are on my own grill, but I need a restaurant choice. Thanks!

Overpriced...tough meat, poor service....an expensive disappointment. Try Smitty's

JJ's is overly formal with overly formal (but not well-trained) wait staff. Stiff prices for sub-par beef.

Best steak at bargain prices, yes, Taylor's in La Canada. Old-school style steak house with red leather booths.

Best steak hands down ... Arroyo Chop House. Fantastic cuts, cooked wonderfully. Top-of-the-line cuts ... bone-in ribeye and the porterhouse. Get a side of the corn, it's amazing.

I went to J.J.'s once and the attitude of the service staff was far too much for me to want to return. I'm amazed that they're still around with the amount of stories I've heard of their poor service and declining food quality. In any case, I second the Arroyo Chop House, Parkway Grill, Ruth's Chris, and Taylor's. I found the Arroyo Chop House to be particularly nice when I went... but you really can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris either.

I would also say that Taylor's in LaCanada is the best!!
Old school, usually very good steak and reasonably priced with killer drinks!!
They are currently doing some huge construction project all around it but it is still open.

not a fan of j.j's. the two times i was there, they were long on attitude (undeserved) and short on quality.
i live a couple blocks from taylor's, and if i want a reasonably priced steak, cooked by somebody else, that's where i'll usually head.
if i want an amazing steak, it's arroyo chophouse in pasadena. expensive, yes (tho not as expensive as ruth's chris, i think), but has never failed to delight.

I tried JJ Steakhouse once, it was okay, but I never went back. I've never had a better Ribeye than the one at Arroyo Chophouse, it's my first choice in Pasadena. Derek's is good, as is Smitty's as well.

I am sure I will get attacked for this, but I like Taylor's and I believe there still one in La Canada. It's VERY old school. A nice stiff drink, a salad with blue cheese dressing and a rib-eye. I love it. But if you are looking for somewhere on top of any trend, keep going.

I was going to recommend Taylor's too. Love the Molly salad, seconfd the ribeye.

                There's a Ruth's Chris in Pasadena.

Smitty's Grill has good steaks, too. I would go there or to the Parkway Grill over J.J.'s Steakhouse.

They also have decent steaks and delicious prime rib at Houston's.
