Degustation substitute in UWS?

rareoccasions Jan 2, 2008 10:53 AM

I've been wanting to try Degustation for ages now, but we are always too big of a party. Finally we have an opportunity just the two of us, but the wife is afraid to be too far from the babysitter (argggh!)
Any suggestions for a special night for two, as uptown and as west as possible?

You know, I love Kefi (food is great) but it's usually loud and very close quarters -- I think of it more as a tasty dinner than a "special night" place.

I haven't tried it, but I think Spiga on 84th and Amsterdam might be more of a date place. It's Italian and has an interesting menu. Neptune Room (seafood) on Amsterdam might also be an option -- the food is solid and it's a got some space between the tables.

I second Ouest (however I am not sure that it also isn't too pricey)

thanks guys! Telepan seems a little over our budget...will take your word for Kefi.

UWS has Telepan. Bar Boulud was suppose to open a couple days ago and that's right by Lincoln Center.

I love Telepan, but if you want to be further north and further west, consider Ouest.

Nothing like degustation, but how about kefi? greek, UWS. Its not extremely fancy, but i think it would be good for a couple. The atmosphere is comfortable and the food is wonderful.
