Saturday Lunch, Surprise Birthday

My best friend is turning 25 and her mother wants to throw a small surprise party for her. We're thinking a Saturday lunch. Any recommendations? Should be fun, not cheesy, good food and drink a must.

Cuisine doesn't matter, I'd say downtown, like below 42nd st. Also, price does not matter.

How many people? Will you need a private room?

probably around 15-20, so i don't think we would need a private room, but could be nice. open to all suggestions really

    2. How many will there be? And what's the per person budget for food?

Money isn't an issue really, but I'd stay in the moderate to expensive range versus the expensive to ultra expensive range, i guess a three dollar sign rating is appropriate

          Two suggestions come to mind:
          West Bank Cafe and Marseille.
Friends of ours just went with a crowd of 13 people and said they had a wonderful time at West Bank and that the owner sat them in a little private area in the back. They were very pleased.

      2. Not sure your definition of "fun", so I will say try Buddakan (Asian fusion) as it is ultra spacious and can easily accommodate a large group. It has a trendy decor and fun ambience, and their food is actually pretty good. In particular, the appetizers and the dim sum are the best dishes. They are also a lot of interesting drinks to order.
