Landmarc TWC - worst meal of my life
Had dinner last night at Landmarc and was served one of the worst meals I have ever had. I had pretty low expectations going in, given most reviews I've heard have been quite lackluster, but I had no idea a meal could be this bad.
Things started out well enough--the server was a bit slow, but our appetizers - frisee aux lardons and roasted marrow bones--were decent but not spectacular and somewhat boring. The frisee had huge cubes of bacon, and far too much of it, to the point of the bacon/salad ratio being nearly 1:1. Marrow bones are pretty hard to mess up, and Landmarc's were pretty straightforward, but definitely nothing to write home about. Too much bread, too little confit.
For entrees, I ordered the sweetbreads and my friend ordered the boudin noir. Perhaps we were crazy for ordering such ambitious dishes, but the sweetbreads were the worst I have ever had. Huge chunks of very blob-y thymus with a very thin coating of not-at-all crisp breading over a bed of green beans. Sweetbreads are one of my favorite foods, but the presentation was so unappealing and there was literally no seasoning--the only thing I can compare the taste to is eating cube of firm rank tofu. I barely managed to finish one chunk before having to push the plate away. The boudin noir was also disappointing, and for some reason came with both mashed and baked potato. Both entrees were not only visually unappealing, but tasteless, barely room temperature and poorly executed.
We tried to salvage the meal by ordering dessert. I got the lemon tart, which was terrible--crust was greasy and too thick and it tasted old. My friend got the nutella eclair--which also tasted old, like one of those pastries you find at midtown delis that have been sitting behind glass for months. Halfway through the busboy stopped by to deliver the same desserts we were eating, but couldn't finish.
Total bill for said meal (for two): $106. Wish we had gone to Mc Donalds.
