Looking for butcher on West side

matt nuss Mar 6, 2001 11:21 PM

I'm having a hard time finding a butcher around the Venice or Santa Monica area other than at the supermarkets. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Victor's Meats on National. A real find. Great meat and excellent service.

Harvey's Guss Meat Co. @ Ogden Dr. and Olympic Blvd. distributes fine meats to restaurants. I don't know if they sell retail.

In reply to my query a few months ago about beef in Hollywood-ish, someone suggested the farmer's market @ 3rd and Fairfax. It's the butcher on the north side of the market, near the crepes and cajun chow - good stuff, and I hear the lamb is fabulous. I also tried the Bristol Farms in BH and was bowled over by their selection and knowledgeable staff (thanks, Cindy). My nearby favorite is Whole Foods.

Below is the link to the previous discussion if I can do this right.

Try Golden West Meats on Lincoln a few blocks south of 10 fwy. Solid, if not "gourmet." Or venture east to Farmers Market (3d & Fairfax) for a couple of pretty good shops.
