good quick breakfasts

I'm going to be staying at the Intercontinental at Tchoupitoulas and Poydras and hoping to get recommendations for quick breakfast options. Where are the best places for bread, croissants, other pastries, or breakfast sandwiches within a few blocks of the hotel? I won't have time for a sit-down breakfast and really don't want to rely on hotel muffins. Thanks very much.

  1. the Commerce Restaurant on Camp and Gravier is a couple of blocks from your hotel. they make a mean breakfast sandwich in addition to a full breakfast menu. good stuff, and inexpensive.

    1. I actually have exactly the same question -- right in the same area even -- but for lunch instead. Same idea: something fast and portable; willing to pay a little extra for speed and convenience; doesn't have to be super-Chowish.

I can't think of anything that's exactly portable, but you can get a good, quick, inexpensive lunch at a number of places within a block or two of that area. The restaurant I mentioned above, Commerce, is one place. Also, FredRick's on the same block, I believe, but on St. Charles. Serio's, a little closer to Canal Street, also on St. Charles. All three of those places would offer pretty good poboys and maybe some plate lunches. Basically working class type places. Welty's, on the same block on Camp as Commerce but a little closer to Poydras, has more bistro-style sandwiches. Another idea would be Liborio, for a solid Cuban lunch, also fairly inexpensive. Liborio is on Magazine. Just a few ideas. Luke, which you can read quite a bit about on this forum (I've never been), is on St. Charles right in the middle of all these places.
