1/1/08 Dim Sum fun times at Gitlo's
Hit Gitlo's today with 7 hounds for two solid hours of plowing our way through Gitlo's menu.
Here's what we had:
Seaweed Shiu Mai - tasty shrimp paste wrapped in seaweed
Shrimp Dumplings - lovely shrimp & broccoli
Sweet Potato Puff - almost like a croissant filled with sweet potato puree; loved these
Taro Cake - shows a lot of promise, though the chef can't get the taro to stick together; I especially liked the sesame seeds
Chow Chou Dumplings - fresh and tasty peanuts, celery and pork
Cantonese Dumplings - my favorite of the dumplings
Rainbow Clear Noodles
Shrimp Clear Noodles
Vegetable Buns - didn't get to try one of these
XO Sauce Daikon Cake - the third one of these we ordered was the crispiest and most caramelized; definitely amazing.
Custard Cream Buns - perfect
Everything was fresh and flavorful and Gitlo could not have been more accommodating. I'm really excited to have this dim sum option in Boston!
What did I miss, hounds?

re: teezeetoo
the shiu mai that we had that were too big were the taro ones. they look like ghosts in the steamer (they're steamed upside-down). my favorite dishes there are the XO sauce daikon cake (i like the way they're cut into cubes and then pan-fried -- more crispy goodness) and the cantonese dumplings (thanks, sg, for ordering them for me last week!).

My son and his friend went for lunch on Wednesday, the 2nd, and was disappointed that Gitlo's had neither the Chow Chou nor Cantonese Dumplings. Not to mention the elusive Crystal Rainbow Buns. It must be difficult for such a new business to figure out how much needs to be in stock.
