We just got back to Chicago, after a week in Las Vegas, and I know what you mean! We really liked Steiner's also. It's open 24/7, and it's a few miles South of the strip, on Las Vegas Blvd. The menu is big, and classic rock was playing on the radio. It's kind of like a sports bar. I can't remember what beers cost, but our bill for 2 was $40 (Philly chicken sandwich, reuben sandwich, and a few beers). We stayed at the Grandview, and with the strip being so crowded due to New Year's week, we preferred various casinos of the strip....Green Valley Ranch had a decent buffett, and we liked Silverton and Southpoint. Southpoint's oyster bar was pretty good too.

Steiner's has a decent location on Buffalo with good wings and very good fries and onion rings. I don't know of any great wings/bars but theirs is not bad.
Would strongly second Settebello's and Grimaldi's for pizza only if you like it the NY coal oven style (Settebello's uses wood) which means a charred crust. If you prefer deep dish, the pickings are slim.

i 2nd crown anchor, grimaldi's....just not sure you can call either "cheap eats" ...compared to the strip...crown is and it's good pub food and it's nice to sit and enjoy a few. i am also a fan of mcmullan's across from orleans ....again...not necessarily cheap eats but it's got a nice vibe and the food works....most of the cheap eats/ cheap drinks were around for monday nite football ( and possibly sunday ) most of the local bars have some football deal going on...i finally tried the red room for some decent drinks...they have "toxologists" there...i think that's what they are called ...on sahara...you know...i didn't even notice if they had food....my guess is no....it's been awhile, but i did enjoy a few brats at big dogs...some grilled onions w/ hot mustard....tasty....hmmm...how about bonito michoagan for some mexican food ....they have a bar...i believe 2/1 margies for happy hour...enjoy !!

more details please - define cheap ? how close to the strip ? for cheap - you can't beat slots-of-fun - a dog and a heineken for 2 = a drink at any major strip bar

Try the Freakin' Frog on Maryland; tons of beer, near UNLV, and generally a good time. Settebello is fine for pizza, but isn't a bar. Other options: The Crown & Anchor on Trop; a british bar, with pretty good food and a good atmosphere. Any of the PT's Golds will also be fine for what you are looking for.
