Portofino in Studio City
We discovered this great little Italian place in Studio City when we lived in LA for a year ('99). We used to go at least 2-3 times a month for their wonderful pastas, marinara so good you could drink it, great bruschetta, and eggplant.
We will be returning to LA next month and are heading directly to Portofino. Is the same owner there, I think his name was Sebastian? He was always so kind to us and to all of the friends we sent there.

re: Bob Barnett
Bob, you're right, the calamari salad is incredible! -- the vinaigrette has just the right amount of garlic, lemon juice, and oregano. I remember having another calamari appetizer there that was one of the best things I've ever had. It was tentacles and rings sauteed in a light sauce of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, white wine, and a fish reduction. Great with chunks of their delicious, crusty bread. That one might have been something from "off the menu", as the owner often cooks things up himself. And yes, his name is Sebastian. Talking about music, Bob, HE has got a great voice! And yes, I've seen Frank Jr. there a few times as well. Must go if you love music and great Italian food. LOVE THAT PLACE!!!
